The fun part was that we didn’t have to wear our Ladies College uniforms that day !

HASHINI, Belgium : I enjoyed celebrating the Sinhala-tamil New Year at Ladies College. It was a very special and ‘play-full’ day.

The fun part was that we didn’t have to wear our uniforms to school.

I remenber ammi and achchi dressing me up with the redda and hatte that was the traditinal avurudu costume. I was so proud that i could were it. When we arrived at school, all the classrooms were decorated.

The teachers brought traditional avurudu goodies like milk rice, kokis and kavum. After eating all this delicious stuff it was time to play the traditional games that are special  during Avurudu such as Kana Mutti  (breaking a pot blind folded), Bunis Kema (eating buns without using hands), Kotta Pora ( pilow fighting ). We had so much of fun playing these games.

Subha Aluth Avuruddak Wewa !
